COA & HS Board Mtg.  2/19/09

Present: Vice Chairperson Wendy Haney, Secretary Ann Alibrandi, Jerry Norwood, Lloyd Gibbs, Nancy Sullivan, Colin Haney, Elaine Biggieri and Director Vicki Lowe

Absent Excused:  Ed O’Leary and Joanne Pratt

Meeting Convened at 7:00pm by Wendy Haney
Minutes were accepted as presented

Budget
No changes or unexpected expenses to date.  Joanne and  Vicki  presented  the budget to the Advisory Committee.  Vicki  spoke with Randy and he said he doesn’t expect that new positions or hours will be approved based on the projected state cuts.  Those numbers will be available at the end of the month.  

Office/ Director’s Report
  • Due to storms we have had to reschedule some events.  We had leeway in the schedule to accommodate.  One of the events was Bingo.  There was a great turnout.
  • Valentine’s Tea was a big success. Thank you Joanne.
  • Jack Craig series has started again for 4 weeks.  This will be paid out of the Pfizer grant.
  • TRIAD had a speaker from AAA who gave a presentation about driving safely.
  • The Census Bureau has added a few extra dates this month for trainings.  This is working out well.
  • Wii Bowling has changed to Fridays.  We have a tournament with the Mansfield COA Wii Bowlers.  We will provide lunch to the participants.
  • The next Men’s Breakfast is on 2/26.  David Shikes a comedian will entertain.  The schedule for Men’s Breakfast as: March 12~ Vicki will be asking the Friends to present to help them with their membership drive.  Charlie &/or Dick will speak.   April 23 the Rotary will give a presentation about ‘Help the Children Hear’  we have had collection boxes here for several months.  This will help people understand the program.  Volunteers will be needed .
  • to cook for this date.  May 14 ~ Fire Chief Roger Hatfield.
  •  No June breakfast as we have Uncommon Picnic.  
  • Then in July we’ll start the cookouts.
  • The 90’s Birthday Party is on Thurs. 4/9.  Vicki has year  pins for the hats to be presented to each person whom already has the 90th hat which was presented at prior years partys. Vicki will make a special presentation of the hats to the new members who have just achieved 90 years. Vicki has Duane Sullivan lined up. Vicki asked  for  new creative ideas that we could do.  We have a supply of scrolls that we gave out a few years ago….when you were born by year.  Vicki suggested that she send a list to our state reps so that they can send a citation.   Everyone agreed that it was a good idea.
  • We have a Bone density screening clinic on Thursday 4/16.  This is done by VNA Inc., through a HESSCO grant.  Very popular all day event.
  • The van had a minor accident.  Hit a parked car at Carl Annon.  Forms submitted to Town Hall for insurance.
  • The piano has been tuned and the broken wheel has been repaired.
Old Business
Vicki said she had not come up with a candidate for the HESSCO rep.  She suggested that it was a real commitment.

New Business
CIP request has been made.  Vicki said  she would like to have someone from the Board come with her to meet with the Advisory Committee on March 7th, time TBD.  It’s a Saturday.  She said she does not feel that she was necessarily the best person to make the pitch.   She is open for suggestions.
She hoped that Joanne would attend with her..
Vicki read a note that was received from a Senior thanking for the many kindness, such  as rides and activities through the year.

Motion to adjourn was made by Jerry and seconded by Lloyd at 7:35 pm
