There is currently a multi-state Cyclosporiasis outbreak occurring in the Midwest, however, an increase in cases is occurring and clusters are also being seen across the United States.  No specific food item has been identified as the source.

Historically, Massachusetts has seen Cyclospora cases as high as 97 in 2023 and to date, there have been 18 confirmed and probable cases as of July 1, 2026.

Cyclosporiasis is an intestinal illness caused by a parasite.  People can become infected by consuming food or water contaminated with the parasite.  Symptoms of cyclosporiasis can include watery diarrhea with frequent and sometimes explosive bowel movements and can occur approximately one week after becoming infected.
